What are the benefits of robot assisted partial nephrectomy?
The goal of partial nephrectomy is to remove the entire tumor sparing as much normal kidney tissue as possible in order to preserve overall kidney function. The improved precision, visualization and decreased blood loss help the surgeon attain these goals. The benefits of robot assisted surgery are carried into the post operative period.
The smaller skin incisions made with robot assisted surgery compared to open surgery result in less post operative pain, shorter hospital stays and quicker return to normal activities. Patient's undergoing partial or radical robot assisted surgery are typically discharged home the next day. Recovery time varies on an individual basis, but most patient's resume work within one to two weeks. |
