What does Prostate Cancer Surgery Mean?
Surgery for prostate cancer means that the entire prostate gland is removed. The advantages of surgery for early stage cancer are high cure rates, complete pathological evaluation of the removed prostate, and ease of subsequent evaluations. The disadvantages of traditional "open" surgery have been a large surgical incision, lengthy recovery time, possible blood loss, and risk of incontinence (involuntary urinary leakage) and erectile dysfunction.
