Treatment is based on the grade and stage of the cancer. However, a man's age and overall health are important considerations as well. Cancer localized to the prostate can be treated with a number of modalities with the intent to cure the disease. Men may choose surgical removal of the prostate, external radiation, brachytheraphy (radioactive seed implantation), or cryosurgery (freezing). The focus of this discussion will be surgery.
